Install Gimp 2.8 in Ubuntu 12.04

GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.
Ubuntu software repositories only include gimp 2.6 but no gimp 2.8,below steps will show you how to install gimp 2.8 from PPA

To install gimp 2.8 on Ubuntu 12.04

1.Open a terminal by Pressing Ctl+Alt+t

2.Remove old version of gimp using below command

sudo apt-get purge gimp*

3.Run below commands to add PPA and install gimp 2.8

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gimp

4.Done,you have gimp 2.8 installed now.

 

To install gimp 2.8 on Ubuntu 11.10 

Run below command in your terminal(Press Ctl+Alt+t)

sudo apt-get install libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install gimp
