Enable hibernate in ubuntu precise 12.04

For some special reasons, hibernate does not work properly on all hardwares with ubuntu 12.04 precise installed,especially if your swap size is less than your physical memory size,but you can follow below steps to enable hibernate on your ubuntu 12.04.

Test If Hibernate works on your ubuntu 12.04

1.Open a terminal by pressing Ctl+Alt+t ,or search terminal in Dash

2.Type bellow command in your terminal,press Enter,then type your password if prompted

sudo pm-hibernate

3.After your PC is turned off,switch it on again,check if your apps is re-opened

Note:If hibernate doesn’t work, check if your swap size is at least same as your available RAM(search “system monitor” in Dash)

 

Enable Hibernate on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise

1.Use your favorite text editor to create a file named /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.enable-hibernate.pkla  ,

gksu gedit /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.enable-hibernate.pkla

and put the following line into it

[Re-enable hibernate by default]
Identity=unix-user:*
Action=org.freedesktop.upower.hibernate
ResultActive=yes

2.Logout then re-login ,you will find the hibernate menu is back
