Check Ubuntu or Kernel Version from command line

This brief tutorial will show you how to find your Ubuntu or Ubuntu kernel version from command line or use a GUI tool.

System Monitor is a GUI tool which can show you your Ubuntu version and kernel version,you can open it from Dash in Ubuntu 12.04

As command line,there are several commands can show Ubuntu version and kernel version in Ubuntu.

First let’s see which commands can show Ubuntu version

lsb_release -a
cat /etc/issue
cat /etc/lsb-release

Then let’s see which commands can show kernel version of Ubuntu

uname -a
uname -r
cat /proc/version

Tip:You can check 32 bit or 64 bit Ubuntu using command uname -m , i686=32 bit ,x86_64=64 bit

uname -m
